Starting A New Decade On A Personal Note
Well, here we have it - it’s 2020.
I actually can’t believe we’ve entered into a new decade! I don’t know about you but it seems like just yesterday all we could talk about was the year 2000, fast forward 20 years later and we’ve entered into another milestone!
A few days before the start of this new decade, I sat down with my two closest friends (AKA my rib cages), and took some time to plan out what I wanted to create in the new year, but I also wanted to reflect on the past 10 years. What a freakin' journey it's been.... actually, what a roller coaster ride since the start of the “new millennium”. And since a new decade calls for self-reflection and personal growth, I wanted to share some of my own personal memories with you. From loss to love, a lot can happen and I wanted to share some of those with you.
So, where to begin? Well, in my graduating year, I tragically lost my high school sweetheart, a drunk driver ran me into a ditch on the highway, then I went a lil’ wild, I entered into a recording contract, I ended a toxic relationship, I fell in love, I got engaged, my engagement was called off, I went a lil’ wild again, I started a new relationship, I got engaged again, I got married on television, I became a mother, I went through marriage problems, I watched my sister walk down the aisle as her made of honour, I experienced the greatest loss ever (my Nana), I moved homes, I went through turbulent times in my marriage again, I had a miscarriage, I lost a good friend, I had baby #2, and last but not least, I was thrown into opening a hair salon 10 days prior to having baby #2! WTF...
I’m pretty sure that isn't even the half of it but those are the memories I’m taking with me into this new decade.
From some of the heartache and stress I’ve experienced right up until today, I ask myself at times: how do I stand on my own two feet every day? Well, that’s the magic question. I’m not quite sure myself but here are a few things that keep me going… a good latte in hand, some girl time, forehead kisses from my kids and to hear the sound of their laughter.
And, of course, my clients....
After reflecting on some of these memories, I wanted to start the year off by focusing on gratitude. Opening a salon (especially right before I was about to give birth) was no easy feat yet during some of the hard times or those days when I didn’t want to get up to go into work - you (aka the client) - have been that driving force to get me up in the morning, put on my big girl pants and walk out that door. This salon is more than just a business. It’s my support system because of the interactions I have with you. Whether it be sad, happy or inspiring, you are that support that gets me through challenging times and for that, I’m grateful. I really wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you. Thank you for letting me be myself, for becoming apart of my world and for letting me become apart of yours.
There is so much more in store for this upcoming year and I wanted to start with how thankful I truly am! As a good preacher man I know would say, "We only really show the highlight reel to our lives,” but I am all about the behind-the-scenes... as that is where the substance of life is!
Stay tuned for more personal notations from yours truly, helpful tips to keep your locks healthy and strong, and upcoming promotions!
I love you all.
Happy 2020!
Pammy Xo
